This article is about what I’ve witnessed and felt in this wonderful platform (Medium) in the past couple of months. Medium Partner Program allowed anyone to make money out of their writings based on views and reading time and that helped many writers generate income until Medium recently introduced the new requirements to be eligible for Partner Program, at least 100 followers.

Medium has played a vital role in revolutionizing in the open writing space. People from various domains are emerging out with extraordinary views and perspectives. The writers didn’t have to wait for their work to get published and viewed by readers around the world. Writers were mostly concerned on quality writing and delivering the best work. Until now, Medium has asked the writers to also focus on building at least 100 followers or they can’t earn out of their article no matter how many times it gets viewed.

I am an avid reader and read multiple articles a day, but I don’t follow every writer. It’s not because they’re not good, it’s just a habit. I am sure it applies to most of the reader.

Partnership Program just doesn’t have negative effects but some positive too. I believe it’ll help curb the effect of baseless and deluding articles aiming to make easy money. The most common type of articles I see these days are tips on making “extraordinary” income by writing on Medium. There’re hundreds of articles alluring the readers and mostly new writers towards a confusing direction. Some of the title goes like this:

- “I Made $1000 a Month Writing ………”

- “Earn 200$-700$ Per Article ………”

- “In ’n’ hours you can have 100 followers”

- “How I make $20k writing”

And so on…….

I’m not saying it’s a lie. They’re simply not applicable to majority of the people or benefits them in any way.

As a reader, I’d like to read something worth my time, contributes the better understanding on my domain.

As a writer, I’d like to read more to grasp a better insight of the topic with the objective to deliver the best of me.

It’s good to get paid for your work. It’s encouraging. But don’t ruin your creativity just to make few extra bucks in the short run and please don’t rush after 100 followers. Your writing will take care of it for you before you know it.

Keep writing.
